The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited Lowe’s Home Centers Inc. in Killeen, Texas, for violating safety measures and exposing employees to electrical and other safety hazards. OSHA has cited Lowe’s for five alleged safety violations. Out of the five safety violations, two are repeat violations. These safety violations call for a proposed penalty amounting to $55,000. There are indications that the safety violations could have resulted in a workplace accident in which employees could have been injured.
Among the three serious violations that OSHA cited, one relates to the exit signs that had not been lit up. The other two violations relate to failing to guard electrical receptacles with exposed current-carrying parts and protection of exposed lamps from possible contact or breakage. OSHA posted this information on its website. According to a statement released by the Austin OSHA area director, OSHA will not allow repeated negligence of the company regarding its failure to protect its workers from possible injuries. Exposure to electrical hazards can put employees at risk of electrocution or electric shock.
