No Fee Unless You Win
Last week, we blogged about a pedestrian that was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver on North Lamar; this week, another pedestrian was killed while crossing the street on the south side of Lamar Boulevard.
According to KXAN, the middle-aged pedestrian attempted to cross South Lamar Boulevard on the morning of April 2 during rush hour. Shortly after 7 a.m., near Lamar Square Drive, a driver struck the pedestrian.
“When you find him on the side of the road like that, it affects you,” stated the victim’s 61-year-old brother.
The driver stayed at the scene and called police. Paramedics got there shortly after the crash and performed CPR on the victim before taking him to University Medical Center Brackenridge, where he died shortly after.
Austin is famous for being an extremely walkable city. However, our streets are still subject to drunk drivers, speeding vehicles and reckless violators of traffic laws. These factors work together to create the number of pedestrian fatalities that we experience every year.
