No Fee Unless You Win
According to the Houston Chronicle, a shoplifter caused a fatal car accident after fleeing a Pasadena, Texas Walmart with a Hello Kitty purse. The shoplifting incident took place around 1 a.m. at a Walmart in the 5200 block of Fairmont Parkway when a security guard tried to stop a woman attempting to leave the store with a Hello Kitty purse, believed to be worth less than $50, without paying for it.
As the security guard tried to stop the woman, she pushed the guard to the ground and drove off in a pickup truck. After fleeing the Walmart parking lot, the shoplifter headed eastbound on Fairmont Parkway. Upon reaching Nations Drive, she ran a red light and T-boned a car in the intersection.
A Baytown woman, 50, and her teenage daughter were in the car that the shoplifter hit. The driver of the car was killed instantly. Her daughter sustained non-life threatening injuries in the crash. Life Flight transported her to an area hospital for treatment. The shoplifter, who was also taken to the hospital after sustaining injuries in the wreck, will face criminal charges, according to the Pasadena Police Department.
“It’s senseless for a mother to lose her life over less than $50 worth of merchandise for shoplifting,” stated Vance Mitchell, spokesperson for the Pasadena Police Department. “It’s a very tragic incident.”
