Recently, car accidents have been rampant in the Austin area due to adverse weather conditions. According to Austin’s KVUE, icy roadways have caused more than 300 vehicle crashes around Central Texas.
In Austin, police officials stated that they have responded to 274 crashes since January 28. Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo said that on average, 40 car accidents were happening every hour since the wintery weather began. Even two police vehicles were reportedly rear-ended.
On January 28, Austin-Travis County EMS crews reported 100 collisions between 5 a.m. and noon. Around 6:15 a.m., emergency crews responded to a 20-car collision on MoPac near Parmer Lane caused by ice on the roads.
In Leander, there was a crash involving a school bus hitting a guardrail. In Round Rock, there were 70 accidents reported, with at least three of them involving police vehicles. Williamson County police reported that they responded to 40 car wrecks. Pflugerville police said they responded to 23 collisions.
