According to KXAN NBC in Austin, an 18-year-old man is facing multiple charges after a January 3 motor vehicle accident that left two people dead. The accident happened at the intersection of the Interstate 35 service road and the East Ben White Boulevard service road.
The 18-year-old was driving a Chevy Malibu on I-35 prior to the wreck, according to an Austin police report. The Malibu sideswiped a van on I-35 before exiting onto the I-35 service road. While traveling on the service road, the Malibu ran a red light at the Ben White Boulevard intersection and collided with the passenger side of a Toyota Camry headed west on Ben White. The T-bone collision caused the Camry to flip upside down.
Two men in the Camry, both in their 40s, were killed, and two people in the Malibu sustained life-threatening injuries in the accident. The two people from the Malibu were taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge for treatment.
According to Austin police, the 18-year-old was driving the Malibu under the influence of alcohol. He has been charged with two counts of manslaughter, two counts of intoxication manslaughter, aggravated assault with a motor vehicle, intoxication assault and one count of leaving the scene of an accident.
When your loved one is the victim of a fatal car accident caused by drinking and driving, it can be easy to become overwhelmed by both the loss and the legal process of holding the negligent driver at fault accountable. Driving while intoxicated (DWI) does not happen by accident, and if an intoxicated driver caused a wreck that injured you or took the life of someone you love, you deserve to see that driver brought to justice.
