No Fee Unless You Win
The holiday season is a very dangerous time of year on our roadways, as drunken driving increases significantly. According to KXAN, on Thanksgiving weekend, Texas state troopers arrested 386 people for driving while intoxicated, and officials are worried that number could increase.
A family in Leander, Texas is still dealing with the impact of a drunk driving tragedy that occurred over a decade ago. In 2002, the mother of the family ran a red light on Hwy 290 and slammed into a truck while under the influence of prescription pills and alcohol. The woman’s daughter, who was 19-months-old at the time, was also in the car and was seriously harmed in the crash, with her injuries putting her in a coma and on life support.
The father and now 13-year-old daughter are actively involved with Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD). On December 1, the family took part in MADD’s Austin Jingle Bell 5k at the Domain, a great family-oriented run/walk that benefits the organization.
In Austin there’s an alarming statistic for intoxicated driving, with almost half of all deadly crashes involving alcohol or drugs. The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration reported that Austin’s percentages are ten percent higher than the Texas average and higher than the national average.
