Nearly two months after Blue Bell halted production due to listeria being linked to its products, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention has made public its findings on the outbreak.
The report found 10 people were infected with the bacteria in Texas, Arizona, Oklahoma and Kansas from January 2010 to January 2015. Three deaths were reported from Kansas.
Listeriosis is a life-threatening infection caused by eating food contaminated with the germ Listeria. People at high risk for listeriosis include the elderly, pregnant women, newborns and those with weakened immune systems.
The CDC advises consumers to not eat any recalled Blue Bell products, and retailers should not sell them. Blue Bell products are frozen, so consumers and retailers should check their freezers.
In April 2015 Blue Bell recalled all of its products and has yet to determine when they will resume production.
