No Fee Unless You Win
As the summer temperatures reach the triple digits this week, many in Austin will be looking to cool off in a nearby pool or lake. Swimming pools allow Austin residents to enjoy the outdoors during the hot summer, but safety must be a priority.
On June 13, a local man swam the length of Lake Austin to raise awareness for water safety and drowning prevention. The trip from Mansfield Dan to Tom Miller Dam was 21 miles and took approximately 12 hours.
The swim was in coordination with Colin’s Hope, an organization founded after the death of four-year-old Colin Holst that aims to educate parents of drowning risks. For children under the age of five, drowning is the leading cause of unintentional death. Jeff Holst, Colin’s father said, “Drowning can happen to anyone. It only takes a few moments, and it’s often silent.”
